The Rocky Horror Picture Show is getting a new release for its 50th anniversary, bringing back a very important question — is Dr. Frank-N-Furter now officially a Disney Princess??

When Disney purchased 20th Century Fox back in 2019, endless jokes were made about whether or not all the characters we loved from movies under the Fox umbrella acquired an honorary royal title as part of the deal. And there’s a case to be made that no one is more deserving than the iconic "sweet transvestite" from Transylvania himself, played by Tim Curry.

To start, his fashions are simultaneously on point and larger than life. Secondly, he sings and he dances — absolute musts for Disney princesses that knock out most of our Fox faves. And thirdly, there is nothing he wants more in this whole world than a man — another Disney princess staple.

Okay, sure, the last one is more than a bit outdated, but considering RHPS was made in 1975, it was absolutely a relevant quality to consider at the time.

In the years between 2019 and now, many people have posed the suggestion that Dr. Frank-N-Furter be considered among the likes of Belle, Ariel, and the rest. But the conversation might be picking up once again thanks to the recent announcement that Disney is doing right by everyone’s favorite midnight movie and preparing a 4K Ultra remaster to be released in both theaters and on Blu-ray later this year.

"Wait, does Disney own the rights to Rocky Horror? Does that make Magenta and Columbia Disney princesses?" Patton Oswalt posted to Bluesky on Wednesday.

"No," @sneakycryptid.bsky.social replied. "It makes Dr. Frankenfurter a Disney Queen."

The cryptid guy makes a valid point. As much as Frank-N-Furter would probably love to imagine himself trapped up in a tower waiting for a big, strong man to climb up his luscious locks for a romping rescue, the title of queen may be more fitting. And although Disney princesses often become queens in their lesser sequels, it feels much more apt for the queen to be the villain of the story in the first run.

And honestly? He would be the best damn evil queen Disney has ever seen.

Either way, we are seated and ready for this well-deserved coronation.
